Conventional manufacturing of fabrics is a problematic industry for our environment. The industry contributes to water waste and pollution on a massive scale.

One way to reduce our impact on our planet is to choose products made from fabrics that have been sustainably made.

Kantha — meaning “quilt” — is a company that employs female artisans from Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Calcutta in India to handmake their range of cotton and silk bedding, from quilts and comforters to throws and blankets.

The practice of making quilts is a tradition that is passed on from mother to daughter. It’s customary for the skilled women to design and craft stunning quilts for newborns and brides.

Each piece at Kantha is hand-sewn, eliminating the need for heavy machinery. And they have a bespoke quality where no two pieces are exactly the same.

The company also supports all three pillars of sustainability, as they give employment opportunities to women, which helps sustain their communities while protecting the environment.
