HempWood

Western Australia, Australia
If you’re looking to build or renovate your home or business in Australia, you've may have looked into the various flooring types available on the market.
The problem with many construction products, like flooring, is that many of these materials can cause potential health hazards. Not only that, but the timber industry puts an incredible strain on the environment, from clearing forests to the pollution that goes with it.
As a conscious consumer, it's good to know that more sustainable flooring solutions are available.
Greg Wilson is an expert in bamboo with 14 years of experience in the construction industry. After seeing how other materials are superior and more sustainable to conventional timbers, Greg decided to fabricate a new product called HempWood®.
HempWood® is exactly that—hemp that's been constructed into wood. The process is sustainable, as the hemp is sourced within 100 miles of the factory and manufactured on-site.
The hemp is fused using a plant-based adhesive and then compressed and baked into wood blocks. These blocks are then veneered into flooring.
The flooring is made relatively quickly, within 150 days, with low VOCs.
Greg hopes that his innovation influences consumers and the construction industry to adopt more sustainable practices.
